5 Facts About the Sochi Olympics
1. A number of countries are headed to the Winter Olympics for the very first time. East Timor, Paraguay, Togo, Tonga, and Zimbabwe are among the debuting nations.
2. Norway has brought home the most awards at the Winter Olympics, with a grand total of 303 medals.
3. For the first time, the Olympic torch has traveled out of the Earth's orbit, onto the International Space Station, and into the vacuum of space.
4. The oldest medalist, Sweden's Carl August Verner Kronlund, won a silver for curling when he was 58 years old.
5. The Iceberg Skating Palace, as its name suggests, also resembles frozen water, with different shades of blue blocks adorning the wave-like shape of the arena.
